New M/M Authors Who Rock: As Nominated By The Readers – Part 3

I love M/M romance and its authors, and I recently posted nominations from readers recommending new M/M authors that they thought deserved an opportunity to showcase their talent on this site.

So far, the following authors have been nominated: Donald L. Hardy, Harper Fox, B.G. Thomas, Eden Winters, Aleksandr Voinov, Louise Blaydon, Mary Calmes, Heidi Champa, Kate McMurray and P.D. Singer. Now a new slate of nominees will join them, including my own nominee who I think is very worthy of the opportunity to be given additional profile.

As I said in the first post,  newbies tend to get lost in all the hype surrounding better known authors, and some eventually get so disappointed at not making a breakthrough that they give up.  The criteria was fairly simple – the author must write M/M and most not have been published in the sub genre for more than a year (give or take a couple of months), must not have been interviewed on this site before, and must be someone that the reader believed had the writing talent to become successful in this industry.

You probably know most of today’s nominated authors, but if you don’t please give them a second and third look and, I hope, even buy some of their books. Here are five new authors that readers think rock!!

This series will return in the winter when I will ask once again for your nominations.

M.J. O’Shea nominated by Aunt Lynn

“I’d like to throw M.J. O’Shea’s name into the ring for my favorite new m/m author.  After having read three of her books — Unintended, Blood Moon and Things I’ll Never Say — I was immensely impressed by her.  She even made me read — and like! — a creature feature, definitely no small feat if you know me.  I found her characters to be well-developed and likeable, the plots credible, and the emotion palpable.  Her writing is so sophisticated that I had to go and confirm that Unintended was her first published work, and I found that to be consistent throughout the three.  I eagerly await what she has in store for us next, and I predict she has a strong future in the genre.”

M.J. O’Shea’s bio

M.J. O’Shea has been writing romance since algebra class in sixth grade (when most of her stories starred her and Leonardo DiCaprio). When she’s not writing, she loves listening to nearly all types of music, painting, reading great authors, and on those elusive sunny days in the Pacific Northwest, she loves driving on the freeway with her windows rolled down and her stereo on high.

Her other work can be found on Literotica and Erotica Republic, where she writes as Alana9.

J.L. Farnsworth nominated by Hope Pittman

“I wanted to recommend a new author in the M/M category to you – J L Farnsworth. She currently only has one book out, Mortal Enemies, and by far it’s one of the best that I have read. Mortal Enemies has just the right amount of passion, but the deep emotional relationship between the two main characters will keep you up at night reading. I couldn’t put this book down until I had finished it. I do know that she is planning sequels to the Mortal Enemies story. I would love for her to get the credit she deserves for such wonderful writing. Please check out this author and include her in the new authors who rock contest. I don’t think she has a website yet, but she has created a facebook account for Mortal Enemies.”

J.L. Farnsworth’s bio

J.L. Farnsworth lives in a tiny little, blink and you’ll miss it, country town in Michigan’s thumb with her husband, Bob, two daughters (a teen and a five-year-old) and their pug, who thinks he’s one of the kids. The voices in J.L.’s head are never quiet, as she is always writing something in there, and has been for as long as she can remember. When she’s not coaching soccer or running her girls here, there, and everywhere, she writes those stories down. Besides writing, she loves the beach, the mountains, traveling, and the zoo—and getting lost in a bookstore for hours.

Kate Cotoner nominated by Aleksandr Voinov

“I want to nominate Kate Cotoner for the beauty of her language and her rich imagination that really breathes life into the seemingly ordinary. She’s a stickler for research and quality and clearly polishes her pose to a brilliant sheen. Her stories are so rich and vibrant she’s one of the authors whose stories I read again and again.”

Kate’s bio:

Kate Cotoner lives in the north of England with her OH and a demanding bonsai named Mr M. She has a fondness for Asian men tempered with a love of hunky Germanic and Mediterranean types, and manages to combine love for all three types whilst watching Formula One motorsport. She loves history, needlepoint, reading, watching brainless blockbusters and meaningful foreign films, staring at US crime shows, and baking French-style bread. She likes strong, plot-driven stories and charismatic characters set against a sweeping, romantic backdrop of history, suspense, international locations and whatever else happens to take her fancy at the time.

I write m/m fiction with the occasional m/f and f/f for balance, but mainly I’m all about the slash. I enjoy writing long, plotty novels and quirky novellas featuring a heady mix of foxes, emperors, swordsmen, priests, ancient Greeks, Tang Dynasty China, Romans, Heian era Japan, yakuza bosses, magic, Mediterranean archaeology, British medieval abbeys, vampires, fantasy, opera singers, illusion, imperial ministers, wuxia, random theology, D/s and power, and–of course–romance mixed with oodles of hot manlove.

AB Gayle nominated by Aleksandr Voinov

“I would like to nominate A.B. Gayle for the honesty of her writing. She’s never happy with the easy solution and clearly strives to get to the heart of everything she touches. The people in her stories are real people, as wacky and opinionated as they can be. What I love about her writing is her sense of humour – I think she has a real comical talent, which is rare when so many other authors depend on angsty superficial drama.”

A.B. Gayle’s bio:

Unlike many authors, I have not been writing stories all my life. Instead I’ve been living life.

My travels have taken me from the fjords of Norway to the southern tip of New Zealand. In between, I’ve worked in so many different towns I’ve lost count. I’ve shoveled shit in cow yards, mustered sheep, been polite to customers, traded insults with politicians. Sometimes I need to be forgiven as I get confused as to who needs what where.

Now living in Sydney, Australia, I finally have time to allow my real life experiences to morph with my fertile imagination in order to create fiction which I hope my readers will enjoy.

And last, since I am above all, a reader, I would like to nominate a brand new M/M author, Sloan Parker.

Sloan impressed me with her first book, More. She tackled a theme that’s fraught with difficulty as M/M/M menages are tough to write, and in my opinion she produced a book that would have done a more experienced author proud. The story was complex, absorbing, compelling and exciting – everything I look for when I open a new book with anticipation.

I ended my review of More by saying: “This is Sloan Parker’s debut novel and it’s a very ambitious undertaking. More is a no-holds-barred account of the lives of three men who can’t get enough of each other and refuse to let go when the going gets really tough and danger threatens their livelihood and their very lives. It’s also the story of how Luke, Matthew and Richard made their relationship work, how Luke evolved from someone who didn’t believe in love and learned to trust, and ultimately how important they became to each other’s happiness.

I think that Sloan is one of those writers who always exceeds expectations and gives 110%. She’s talented, creative and in my opinion has the right stuff to succeed in this business and the only place she can go is up. Here’s to you Sloan!

Sloan’s bio:

Sloan has been writing stories and playing with the characters in her head for years and is thrilled to have her first novel (More, March 2010) published by the wonderful folks at Loose Id.
Sloan loves to explore the romantic lives of everyday people…people who are growing as individuals, living as true to themselves as they can, and of course, falling in love. She enjoys writing in the fictional world because in fiction you can be anything, do anything…even fall in love for the first time over and over again.

Sloan is bisexual, a vegetarian, an animal lover, a writer, a reader, and lover of all things romantic and sexy. She lives in northern Ohio (US) with her longtime partner and their neurotic cats.

Sloan is working on her newest book Breathe.

Some of these authors I know (and love their work!), for others this post serves as an introduction to writers I hope to learn more about through their stories. Now that I’ve “met” them, I’ll be watching for their books and reviews.

What a fabulous idea, this focus on new authors. Will it become an annual event for your site?

    Hi Eden
First of all, there’s no voting. :) I’m just trying to introduce new authors to readers who may never have heard about them. I hope that these posts are beneficial to both the authors and the readers and only time will tell.

As I said in this post, I hope to do this again in the winter (probably around February) so I’m looking at doing this twice a year.

  3. Sloan Parker

Wow…thanks, Wave! I’m honored to have made your list. I appreciate your kind words and your confidence in me and my writing. And now I have more new authors to add to my TBR list.

    Hugs,
    Sloan

      Sloan
You’re very welcome. Obviously I nominated you because I think highly of your writing talent, and I’m looking forward to your next book and those that will come later. :)

  4. MJ O'Shea

Thank you so much for including me on the list! It’s an honor to be listed with other authors that I like so much:)

  5. ElaineG

Thanks Wave for profiling some more wonderful new authors. Sloan Parker is one of my favorites, and I should have nominated her *kicks self*.

Off to add a few books to the TBB list, which seems to be growing at an awesome rate yay!

You’re going to have to get another job soon if this keep us. Lucky for you that’s it until next Winter.

  6. A.B.Gayle

    Hi Wave
Thanks for including me and thanks to Aleksander for nominating me.
It’s hard to get noticed as there are so many good writers out there. Hopefully my next novella “Caught” which is due out with Dreamspinner in September will live up to the same standard.
This intro to new authors is a great idea and I’ll be checking out “More” by Sloan Parker for a start, it sounds great. Especially after reading this:
She tackled a theme that’s fraught with difficulty as M/M/M menages are tough to write, and in my opinion she produced a book that would have done a more experienced author proud.
    Wow.
    hugs to all mentioned.

      Hello A.B.
Sorry we woke you up. :)

Aleks is very high on you and I can understand why after reading Mardi Gras. Looking forward to Caught.

  7. TJ

Another great list Wave! I haven’t read any of these authors yet, although some of these books are on my TBR list. Thank you for bringing them all to our attention. This really is a great idea.

      Hello T.J
Maybe Sloan will get you to change your mind about menages. I highly recommend More. I have also read Mardo Gras which is quite unusual and all three releases by M.J. O’Shea that I loved. I haven’t tried the other books so can’t say much about them but the readers who nominated the authors seemed high on them.

    Hi Ingrid
Welcome back. Now you can spend all of that money that you didn’t while you were on vacation. :)

  9. BG Thomas

“More” sounds wonderful and like something I want to check out! Thanks for this review!
