Review Summary: A tour de force! Engrossing, brilliant and damn scary.

THE BLURB

For the past dozen years, Victor Bayne has solved numerous murders by interrogating witnesses only he can see—dead witnesses. But when his best friend Lisa goes missing from the sunny California campus of PsyTrain, the last thing he wants to find there is her spirit.

Disappearing without a trace in a school full of psychics? That’s some trick. But somehow both Lisa and her roommate have vanished into thin air. A group of fanatics called Five Faith has been sniffing around, and Lisa’s email is compromised.

Time is running out, and with no ghosts to cross-examine, Vic can’t afford to turn down any offers of help. An old enemy can provide an innovative way to track Vic’s missing friend, and he enters into an uneasy alliance—even though its ultimate cost will ensnare him in a debt he may never manage to settle.

THE REVIEW

GhosTV in book 6 in the PsyCop series. Jordan Castillo Price has an amazing imagination which, added to her storytelling abilities, excellent prose and dialogue make for a brilliant combination. She doesn’t compromise, she lets it all hang out for her readers and provides a dizzying ride, but she also knows when to put the brakes on so we don’t miss anything that’s important to the story. Although I love all of her books, Jordan is at her best and most creative in this series which stars life partners Detectives Victor Bayne and Jacob Marks. These books are addictive and it’s not because of the intense, scary plots, the ghosts, or even the way that all the elements are combined - I love the series because of the protagonists, their relationship, and the character arc.

I could give you a couple of paragraphs summarizing the plot but the blurb is pretty clear so I’ll talk instead about the characters.

In GhosTV, which is the longest, most complex and ambitious plot in the series to date, all of Vic’s abilities as a medium are tested to the maximum as psychics, including his friend Lisa, are disappearing without a trace from PsyTrain, a training facility in California. While the action sequences are exciting and the pacing is at times at breakneck speed, IMO everything else pales compared to what is basically the story within the story – Vic’s and Jacob’s relationship, its evolution, and how these two men deal with the changes that are taking place in their lives because of their human frailties and fears. For the first time they are working together as an investigative team and this changes the dynamics between them.

The case is very serious but there’s lots of fun too as Vic frets about his body and whether he’s still attractive to Jacob. A seemingly chance comment made by Jacob’s sister Barbara who hates the fact that, unlike her, he can eat like a horse and never gain a pound – “I always pictured Jacob with someone more athletic” – opened a can of worms that raised the spectre which might have been a deep seated fear he always had that Jacob, who could probably bench press 300 pounds without breaking a sweat, wouldn’t find him attractive much longer. His lack of upper body strength consumes Vic when he’s not worrying about his friend and fellow psychic Lisa. It’s amazing how much mileage Jordan got out of the fact that Vic was so stressed about his lack of musculature, all the time he spent researching how to build a better body :)  and agonizing about whether he needed to “beef up” to hold Jacob’s interest. JCP’s humour makes her characters even more layered, and Vic’s first person narration reveals his usual self absorption. I love his character which is such a dichotomy because on the flip side of his seeming disregard for people is the fact he doesn’t have much self esteem as evidenced by the way he almost self destructs by the implied criticism from Jacob’s sister which exposes some of his insecurities. How can someone who plays the part of the cool detective to the limit become such a basket case because of a lack of confidence in his physical appearance? Vic has so many personal issues and is so clueless he doesn’t realize what a terrific person he really is and why Jacob loves him.

Jordan always gets on Vic’s last nerve and here’s one episode in the book that demonstrates this. For some unknown reason Vic triggers an alarm at the airport on the way to California.  He is detained and taken to a holding area alone, with no Jacob to hold his hand and calm his fears. Of course he was traumatized and almost hysterical at the thought of being confined in any type of holding facility because of his previous experiences at Heliotrope Station or Camp Hell (you have to read the other books to understand his terror). An old foe, Con Dreyfuss, head of a division of the Federal Psychic Monitoring Program known fondly as FPMP, which had been spying on Vic for some time, conveniently shows up and offers him a deal if he wants to be released immediately. Since Dreyfuss is his sole hope to get out of  ’jail’ quickly,Victor takes the deal with the devil, which places him  in Dreyfuss’s power. Of course Dreyfuss capitalizes on it immediately.

Crash, one of my very favourite characters in the series, is back in his role as a catalyst. He has always had the hots for Vic and in each story he does everything he can to get into his pants, which Vic would never allow, but it’s very hard for him to resist Crash’s charms and blandishments as he tries to reel him in whenever they are alone and even when they’re not! In GhosTV, Crash offers to cut Vic’s hair, innocent enough on the surface but obviously for Crash it was yet another opportunity to try and win the man he wants above all others. Where he was concerned everything was on the table in the high stakes game of trying to win Vic.

Jacob has always been a steadying influence on Vic and the one person who knows all his fears and idiosyncrasies but loves him unconditionally. In this book Jacob’s own issues are revealed for the first time in an intimate moment with Vic, which makes him less of a superman and more of a vulnerable human being.

JCP is a brilliant writer and weaving such a compelling and complex paranormal adventure as GhosTV shows her originality in storytelling and makes Book 6 in the PsyCop series well worth the 2 year wait. Where she excels are her characters who are vivid, flawed, nuanced, memorable, manipulative and driven, and the supporting characters aren’t just window dressing, they have major issues and the way they are integrated into the plot is sheer genius. Many new characters are introduced, old friends return (even Miss Mattie makes an appearance) and old foes who use Vic’s dependence on drugs to achieve their own ends. It’s not that Vic is overly trusting or naive, but he gets caught up in the investigation and before he realizes it he’s screwed. One of the most complex characters this time around is Con Dreyfuss who is also the ultimate manipulative scumbag.

As usual there are many surprises, and the finale was like watching and living the scariest horror movie. The end of the book left me gasping for air. A cliff hanger that I didn’t see coming!!

If you’re looking for an exciting adventure, GhosTV fits the bill on all levels. It’s funny, scary, complicated, fast paced, the plot sizzles with twists and turns around every corner and suspects galore, and you’re hard pressed to figure out who are the good and the bad guys. However, I think that some of the best parts demonstrated the growth of the characters – Jacob’s vulnerability and Vic’s maturity (Vic is more tolerant and accepting of Jacob’s family, even Barbara’s whiny brat).

GhosTV is another thrilling ride from the queen of paranormal horror who elevated her game to a new level. Outstanding!

The end of  the book left open many possibilities for PsyCop 7 but I don’t see  JCP topping this one, however I never bet against someone who always seems to have a winning hand and plays it with skill and zest.

This is not a standalone story and you shouldn’t even think of reading it before books 1 – 5, all of which are reviewed on the site.

Highly recommended.

Loved the book, the review is perfect. Thanks Wave.

I hadn’t registered that what makes Jacob’s love so special is that quality you highlight- it’s unconditional.

I think Vic is, along with Adrien English, my favourite character. First person narration, when done as well as this, is hard to beat for intimacy and intensity.

      Hi Raine

This series is among my top 5 including, The Draegan Lords, Adrien English, Cut & Run and its sequels, and all of JL’s series.

GhosTV exceeded all of my expectations and I can’t wait another year (or more) for book 7.

If you haven’t read her vampire series Channeling Morpheus and Sweet Oblivion they are quite the ride as well as the Petit Morts books. She’s a remarkable writer.

this author is fab and pretty much everything she does is gold – I am saving this book as one of my holiday reads – anticipation and all that – good review – thank you  the bunny (shades!) is a nod towards my seaside holiday. My kindle with JCP, Josh Lanyon etc, a large pint and the sea – perfection!

That’s a great treat to save up. I envy you going on vacation and having a lot of books to pass the time in the sun is the best way to enjoy and have a wonderful holiday. :)

Let me know when you return what you think of Jordan’s latest.

Excellent review, Wave. I don’t normally read paranormal, but I heard so many good things about this series that I decided to try the first book. Needless to say, I never looked back. This book was the first one I had to wait on, and I have to admit to a little JCP stalking. Is it done yet? now? How bout now? As you said, it was well worth the wait. The end left possibilities and I can’t wait to see where the ride takes us next. Is it done yet? How bout now?

Even though this is a paranormal series it’s not about weres or any other breed of shifters or vamps which is what makes these books so interesting and the writing makes them into an addiction.

My first book was #3 Body & Soul 3 years ago – and of course I had to go back and pick up the previous books as I was hooked. Jordan is one author who doesn’t sit on her laurels. This one is now on top of my TBR pile again. :)

It was just a year ago that I got started on the PsyCop series (Among the Living was suggested to me on a Goodreads challenge). I zoomed through the first five books, the shorts (I’ve probably read Striking Sparks a dozen times), and the online character interviews–all while impatiently drumming my fingers for GhosTV. It was definitely worth the wait and as you said, the unexpected cliffhanger ending made my jaw drop. This is a great book in an absolutely fabulous series. More, Jordan, please!

I remember having a discussion with you about a year ago and I couldn’t believe at that time that you hadn’t read any of JCP’s PsyCop books because you’re such a voracious reader. Maybe it was the paranormal theme that put you off. Anyway I’m so happy that you’re now a convert.

I hope no one reveals the cliffhanger because I will be so pissed :( – that alone was worth reading the book. :)

When I started this one, I thought too much was going on with the new abilities and such and worried it was too ambitious or overdone. I was completely wrong, by halfway through, I knew I had to finish it immediately and couldn’t put the book down. What amazed me was how much the characters grew as individuals and a couple in this book. You don’t expect that with the 6th book in a series and it took my breath away. The plot was ingenious and intriguing and amazing. I was also impressed with the depth in the new characters introduced, each served a purpose and was so well-fleshed. It is my favorite of the series and might be my favorite JCP book.

Excellent review, you touched on all the reasons this book worked so well without giving away all of the new twists and turns.

I love Jacob and Vic (and Crash of course) and can’t wait for #7.

Like you I initially thought that there was too much going on but realizing that this book was almost 400 pages I figured out soon enough that the content had to be sufficient to sustain such a long book. I was about one quarter in when I began to see the master at work as she moved her characters like chess pieces in terms of the mystery, and used her creative talent in the area of character development.

I have always loved Vic from the very beginning and and Jacob played second fiddle in my heart but I think he came into his own in GhosTV.

Crash is my man and I love the fact that he never gives up on Vic. :sex2:

    !!!! FanTASTic review!

And I’m so glad I saw it right at this moment. Price has always been an instant-purchase for me. All of the PsyCop books are so lush and well-structured… yet for some reason (as you say) the ambitious dog pile of complications was giving me pause… which is stupid on my part. I KNOW how good she is and I should just trust that she’ll take me (and her story) where they should go.

Yay! Yay-yay! I’m reading this next.

      Hey Damon

Thanks for the nod – you’re one of the best reviewers I know so it means a lot coming from you. Jordan and Josh bring out the best in me because their strength is in the way they build the layers of their characters to their fullest potential.

I guarantee you will not be disappointed by GhosTV which may seem confusing at first (after all, in a 400 page novel there’s a lot of building blocks before you get to the main event, and what a main event)!!! This is one of those stories that will grab you once you get into it and you won’t want to put it down. After you read it email me about what you think of the end. I don’t want anyone to discuss it on the site because that would be horrible for those people who haven’t read the story.

Jordan is at the top of her form and you can’t get much better than that. :hot:

I was suprised how well Victor and Jacob worked as an investigating team. I felt Jaob actually had a calming effect on some of Victors paranoia and his calm confidence in Vics ability to do decent police work was heart-warming. Jacob doesn’t treat Vic like an idiot and hence it seems Vic steps up.

Also, it gave a more nuanced view on Dryfuss, I am not sure he is the enemy Victor initially thought he was. Though I wonder if he understands how many Camp Hell flashbacks he triggers for Victor just by his way of acting.

I think this book opened for a lot of possible future storylines instead of closing the last threads from Camp Hell (book 5). I could see both Vic, Lisa and Jacob working for Dryfuss in the future as a sort of supernatural team. I could see Victor learn to use the Astral thing and the Ghostv. The Ghostv seem like an excellent tool to diagnose psy abilities and distinguish them from mental illnesses (thinking of the girl in the hospital in book 5). I could even see Vic open a school of some kind for people with psy abilities since he seems to be the only one that has a clue of whats going on…

LOVED the conversations in astral space and the un-guarderded conversations. I think Dryfuss killed the evil boss from Camp Hell btw.

LOVED Crash, he is just so delicious you want to eat him.

      Saga
I never thought of Vic and Jacob working together because Vic always had another Stiff as his partner, but seeing them in this book – WOW! I agree about the calming influence that Jacob had on Vic in a work situation – that was so great to experience.

I guess Dreyfuss will never be a favourite of mine because of Camp Hell.

I don’t want to talk too much about Dreyfuss’s possible role in the future because I don’t want to give anything away. I’ll just say I love the direction and I look forward to book 7. Write faster J.

      • Ok, let’s see if I can discuss this without giving too much away…

Think of the possiblities of the astral plane if Vic would ever consider working somewhere else? He could double check intentions, just saying! Like previous threats, this could actually work as an incentive for Vic to explore his talents.

Dreyfuss was never involved in the running of Hellitrope station, am I remembering that correctly? He is a later figure?I have to admit it was hard to let go of my impression of him from Camp Hell.

Karen could develope to a future scary character/villain…

I don’t normally read paranormal either but I’m going to check out this series. Sounds terrific.

      Laura
This is a different kind of paranormal series. There are no shifters or mates :) only ghosts and psychic characters. If you ARE going to read the series PLEASE don’t start with this book – take it from the top, Among The Living where Jacob and Vic first met. This is a great series and I hope you love it as much as we all do.

      • Wave,

My OCD will not allow me to read these in any order except how they are supposed to be read. I just bought the first and second ones and the ‘little in-betweens’. Now if my company would just leave so I could get started!

I was SO angry about that cliffhanger, I had to walk away from reviewing the book for a few days in order to calm down and be fair in my assessment of the book, lol.

Vic was always one of my favorite characters and, after this book, even more so. The parts where he’s obsessing about his appearance were hilarious and so, so… well, so Vic. And, yet, he has come a long way since the first book. I can’t wait to see how will he deal with Jacob’s decision – it’s going to be madness. And, you know, I thought that Jordan could not possibly top Camp Hell and then she wrote this one and proved me wrong. So, yes, don’t bet against her. ^^

I was SO angry about that cliffhanger, I had to walk away from reviewing the book for a few days in order to calm down and be fair in my assessment of the book, lol.

When you think about it, Jordan had to do something drastic with her characters to keep them fresh. Book 6 usually means the end of a series, and if she had continued with the same old, same old, you might have been yawning by the time book 8 rolled around. Now you don’t know what the hell to expect so you’re keyed up. :)

I love this author’s creativity which keeps her stories and characters fresh.

What I appreciated about this story are the new tender touches from Jacob, like holding Vic’s hand to give himself comfort and courage – just wow!

      Bring on no.7 and 8 J. :)

  10. 10

This whole series is golden on all fronts. I love how Vic was really able to explore and advance his abilities in this latest story. The first person narrative from Vic makes me feel as if I know him personally. The passage about Vic and Jacob’s astral threads intertwining was beautiful – they make a great team in every way. It will be interesting to see how Vic reacts to what happens at the very end of this story. And hey Vic, some of us (apparently Jacob and Crash included) love a tall, lean yet non-ripped body,so give yourself a break

    • 10.1

      Hi Dianne

The passage about Vic and Jacob’s astral threads intertwining was beautiful – they make a great team in every way

I thought that was so emotional as well as cool. Jordan can touch the emotions without seeming to play for the effect she gets every time from her fans.

I think Crash is right to be attrqcted t Vic. What’s wrong with a tall drink of water? You can pour it down your throat or on your body. LOL

  11. 11

I was SO angry about that cliffhanger, I had to walk away from reviewing the book for a few days in order to calm down and be fair in my assessment of the book, lol.

I had a feeling that throughout the book that that cliffhanger would happen. Jacob did not seem to see the same thing concering Dryfuss’ organisation as Victor does…

The question is; is Jacob too naive or is Victor overly paranoid? I don’t doubt that Dryfuss is manipulative, but is he manipulating the psy workers to serve him/goverment or is he manipulating to protect them?

I have to agree with Dryfuss about having Vitcor solve normal domestic crimes though; it IS like swatting a fly with a uzi.

    • 11.1

      Hey Saga

The question is; is Jacob too naive or is Victor overly paranoid? I don’t doubt that Dryfuss is manipulative, but is he manipulating the psy workers to serve him/goverment or is he manipulating to protect them?

I think Dreyfuss’s character is one of the highlights of this series and this book in particular. How this will play out is anyone’s guess – is he a good guy? Or is he a manipulative bastard? Only Jordan knows and that bitch isn’t talking. LOL

      • I just re-read the scene with Dreuyuss and Vic in the airport bathroom (in the end) and I have to wonder if he thinks Victor is sweating due to seeing ghosts or because of flashbacks?

I wonder if Stefan told Dreyfuss about Vics post stress syndrome or if he just reported mundane stuff? The astral conversation they had makes me think he didn’t… and Dreyfuss is always doing the “wrong” things to Vic, pushing buttons I don’t know if he knows about. He would be much better off just talking straight to Vic imo (if he had nothing to hide).

And did anyone notice he handed the drugs to Vic in a similar way he handed the doughnut to the level 2 medium?

        • Hi Saga

And did anyone notice he handed the drugs to Vic in a similar way he handed the doughnut to the level 2 medium?

I was referring to Dreyfuss when I said this in the review

and old foes who use Vic’s dependence on drugs to achieve their own ends

          • I missed that implication the first time I read the book and your review made me go back an re-read… you’re on your toes!

  12. 12

Great review, Wave! I thoroughly enjoyed GhosTV, and, like you, I thought she took it to a higher level with this one. All the nuances of the psychic abilites, all the astral projection scenes, that epic grand finale … just amazing.

And the inner conflict (Vic’s insecurity) and the outer conflict (Lisa’s disappearance) are equally compelling. And Con Dreyfuss was such a dynamic character, standing out even in a group of vivid supporting characters. I really enjoyed the interactions with him. :)

    • 12.1

      Val
Thanks for stopping by. Jordan’s writing was just as incredible as always and you and I know that when she’s in the zone there’s no stopping her.

This book is really compelling and I read it a second time already even though it’s almost 400 pages. LOL

  13. 13

I agree with you regarding JCP’s ability to write “characters who are vivid, flawed, nuanced, memorable, manipulative and driven” as well as the her secondary characters supporting the story. The new novel left me undecided regarding Con Dreyfuss’ motives – I agree he’s manipulative although I’m unsure now if he is a “scumbag”. Jury is still out for me on that one.

I do love JCP’s humor and ability to take a character like Victor, who in the hands of a less capable writer would have been completely annoying, into one that is complex, layered, nuanced, and sympathetic.
We understand why he is flawed and root for him all the way. I completely got why Jacob’s sister’s remark bothered him so much. I can’t think of one person that I know that hasn’t allowed an off-hand comment to get under their skin.

It is precisely these types of behaviors interwoven into an intricate plot that keep me and others coming back for more.
JCP, Josh Lanyon and a couple other writers are my consistent go-to as well because I know that the story as well as writing will be exceptional. :bravo:

    • 13.1

      DammitJanet

I think JCP should develop a template for a few authors on how to craft characters that drive a story and make you fall in love or hate with them. Both are equally important. Without exception all of the characters in this book had a role to play and the execution was brilliant.

Jordan, Josh and a few others set the standard for this sub genre and I wait with eager anticipation every time they release a new book. Now I have another 2 year wait for book 7. :(

  14. 14

I wanna read it NOW … but I’m holding out for the print edition and it’s not out yet

    • 14.1

I could never be that patient Denni. Instant gratification – that’s me. :) Just don’t read the reviews on Amazon because they are not as concerned about spoilers, and you definitely don’t want spoilers in GhosTV.

  15. 15

Stories about psychics & mediums are my favorite type of paranormal stories & JCP writes this one so well that I got hooked. Vic is such a great nuanced character with all his imperfections & paranoia & worries. I like Crash as well but I’m always a little nervous when he’s interacting with Vic. [Crash needs a boy of his own & his own book] Vic & Jacob are great together & I wouldn’t want to see that ruined. I loved the progression in the story, but cliffhangers–ugh. She’ll just have to write that next book faster.

    • 15.1

      Sara

I don’t think you need to be concerned that some day Crash will win Vic over. Jordan would never let that happen. Have you noticed that she only lets Crash go so far and no further? LOL

  16. 16

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this series. Along with the Adrien English stories, the PsyCop stories are right up there at the top of my comfort reading list.

This book is no exception. I prefer paper back copies, but I’m like you, Wave. Need my fix and thanked the internet gods whilst downloading it immediately it became available.

    Only one teeny weeny quibble.

    Quote:

“Vic has so many personal issues and is so clueless he doesn’t realize what a terrific person he really is and why Jacob loves him.”

I’d love it if we had a short story from Jacob or Crash or Lisa talking about Vic. We only get Vic’s pov, and sometimes I wonder what others do see in him. He’s always thinking such negative thoughts about himself. When he was in Camp Hell he appears to be such a punk! His experiences there have obviously seriously affected him, but he must have some good character traits that draw Jacob to him. It surely can’t just be Vic’s psychic ability that he finds so attractive. I’d love for Vic (and us readers) to discover why Jacob’s so drawn to him.

    • 16.1

      Hi Gaycrow

“Vic has so many personal issues and is so clueless he doesn’t realize what a terrific person he really is and why Jacob loves him.”

As I was writing that sentence in the review I thought it would be fantastic if Jordan wrote the remaining books in the series with alternating 1st person POVs. She did that with Wild Bill and Michael in her vampire series.

This series is so addictive that we can’t get enough of the characters — all of them, not just Vic and Jacob, and I would like to hear a lot more from Jacob after seeing his vulnerability in GhosTV.

      • Yes, this book was an eye-opener concerning Jacob. It felt like we got to know him more, see his weaknesses and vulnerability. And also get to know more about his psychic capabilities. Very very interesting, and very very addictive!

I also loved seeing Lisas si-no in play in the end of the story and how maybe that would work if the three of them decided to work together in the future. I loved her kinda brutal delivery into Victors and Jacobs more anxiety filled thought processes.

      • Wasn’t “Stroke of Midnight” a short story told from Jacob’s POV? However, it’s been a while since I read it,so I don’t remember all the details. :???:

        • Yes, it is. I enjoyed that, and it did show a little bit more Vic. Only a tiny bit though! It was more about Jacob and his friends, and the way people in Jacob’s and Vic’s profession have to give up so much of their personal life to do their job.

          • I agree it was a bit of a teaser – I definitely wanted more, more, more. I did enjoy hearing Jacob’s voice in a story though…now I’m anticipating what happens although it looks like we’ll be waiting for awhile yet.

  17. 17

I love, love, love this series, and this book totally is no exception!!!!

A bunch of us JCP stalkers…. I mean fans, are already bugging the crap out of her over on Facebook wanted to know how #7 is coming along. lol

I still laugh out loud thinking about Vic mooning in every mirror possible over his new haircut. (is this considered a spoiler?)

    • 17.1

      Hi Hope

I still laugh out loud thinking about Vic mooning in every mirror possible over his new haircut. (is this considered a spoiler?)

No, that’s not a spoiler. LOL That was Vic being Vic.

Maybe if you stalk Jordan some more she’s get off her you know what and start writing.

  18. 18

Okay, you’ve worn me down. :) I’m gonna get the whole shebang, I guess, and dive into paranormal land. I didn’t even read this review, I’m just gonna start from the, well, start.

    • 18.1

I’m really sorry Lynn. I didn’t mean to convince you to take a walk on the dark side but this is not about shifters or vampires, just ghosts and two fabulous men. You can read this review because there are no spoilers. :) Jordan read it and congratulated me about that – I’m so proud.

This series is extraordinary! Vic and Jacob are HOT. :)

      • Wave, this isn’t too much of a stretch. I’m looking forward to it. :)

        • You have to let me know how you like the series. Start with Book 1, Among the Living and work your way through without skipping. I’ll know if you cheat. LOL.

          • OMG. O. M. G. I LOVED it. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Even though I was in the last several days of my deadline at work, I fit in time to read this entire series, shorts and all. Did I mention that I loved it? :) Amazing writing, great characters, fab plots, wonderful detail, totally realistic, scorching smexxin (every scene meant something and I didn’t skip one!), damn-near immaculate editing and proofing. Vic is one of my new favorite characters and I adore his voice and narration — he is so real to me — and his and Jacob’s relationship…I don’t have words about how these two are together, it’s so wonderful. The things with Vic and his hair and his wanting to work out had me tickled. :)

I think I liked GhosTV the best as there is so much character development in it. I have to agree with several others that my feelings about Con Dreyfuss are mixed and I’m not sure what the deal is with him; on one hand, he is a manipulative scumbag, as you’ve pointed out, and I don’t trust him as far as I can throw him, but on the other, he seems vulnerable and maybe — just maybe — he does have Vic’s best interests at heart. Jury is out.

I’m very interested to see what is next after that bombshell of an ending. While I am waiting for Book 7, I do believe I’ll be re-reading it all again, maybe a few times.

            • Lynn
I’m so happy you LOVED this series. I have been praising it like forever and I can’t get enough of it. I now have the entire series in print which I very rarely buy – as a matter of fact I probably have every book Jordan has written in print. So glad to have you become a fan of PsyCop.

As for the sequel to GhosTV, I’m waiting to see what Jordan does about Con Dreyfuss’s character in Book 7. There are so many “moments” in each book in the series that I go back to whenever I re-read them. LOL

Now if only I can get you interested in fantasy and steampunk. I have just the book for you if you have never read it – Wicked Gentlemen by Ginn Hale. :)

        • Hey, Lynn, I know we have somewhat similar taste in books and, if it means anything, I think the chances that you’ll be disappointed are microscopical.

        • How exciting to hear you liked PsyCop enough for a potential re-read! I think of you as a “tough customer” (and I mean that in the best of ways–discerning, analytical) so it’s especially gratifying to hear you enjoyed the series

It would be much less interesting if I let on on whether or not you can trust Con Dreyfuss too early!

          • Potential, nothing! I’ve already re-read Book 1 and will be starting Book 2 in just a few. And enjoyed is an understatement. I just now bought Books 1-5 in print, which is highly unusual and saved for special reads.

It would be much less interesting if I let on on whether or not you can trust Con Dreyfuss too early!

Agreed. I can live on middle ground until I know for sure in later books.

Thanks for commenting, Jordan, and thanks for an amazing series.

Hi gang, thanks for all the kind words. It’s very humbling to think readers are jonesing for whatever I write next, seriously.

I suppose I don’t consider the ending a cliffhanger technically. I remember one of the Stephanie Plum stories where she opened her door and… (you didn’t know if it was Ranger or Joe Morelli!) So for me the end of GhosTV was nothing like that. Instead it paid off the thing Vic said about Jacob on the first page of the book, provided plausible conflict, and set up book seven.

“…that’s what I like about Jacob. If he’s good at something, he doesn’t stand around and wait for someone else to take a turn at it. That’s fine for little-league soccer, but when it’s life or death, you want the best guy on your team to step up to the plate.”

PS I do write, typeset, create ebooks, create cover art, etc every day…I don’t lay around watching infomercials ;-)

      Hey Jordan

Thanks for stopping by in between infomercials.

I do remember that Stephanie Plum book and what a cliffhanger it was.LOL This is a cliffhanger — maybe not for you but for us. :)

I love baseball and in this book you definitely didn’t just steal third base but you stole home, Miss Jordan.

We hope that sometime soon you might consider writing a PsyCop novel from Jacob’s lst person point of view or even mix it up with both POV’s.

Thanks for a wonderful adventure J and get cracking with the writing — those chickens are waiting to be hatched.

Loved this book as much as the rest of the series. I was happy to see the depth of Vic and Jacob’s relationship build and become even more clear/stable (the intertwining “ropes” were amazing. And the protecting him with his body even in sleep??!!! Wow!. ( I wish a couple of my previous relationships had been that involved.)

Vic needed to see and know that Jacob has his own insecurities and that he doesn’t necessarily feel “worthy” of Vic…..that he is actually *good* for Jacob.

Regarding Crash, though….I never took his flirting with Vic seriously. I always thought it was just him messing with Vic simply because he could. Not that Crash wouldn’t have sex with him if Vic caved but that he seriously didn’t expect it to happen. Am I the only one who looked at it that way?

The humor in JCP’s books are what drew me in in the first place and the excellent writing has kept me a fan. :bravo:

JCP, you’re an automatic buy for me and I don’t even wait for them to appear on ARe (and that’s saying something for me! )

      Hello Sherry

I was happy to see the depth of Vic and Jacob’s relationship build and become even more clear/stable (the intertwining “ropes” were amazing. And the protecting him with his body even in sleep??!!! Wow!.

Isn’t that incredible? Her writing gets better and her characters wrap themselves around our hearts. Now if only she can redeem the ultimate manipulator Con Dreyfuss but I guess that’s too much to hope for. :???:

With Crash I think it’s a little of both – I think he really wants Vic, but in the meantime if he messes with his head that gives him some satisfaction and maybe hope. LOL. How about the last scene between the two of them?

      • Yes, it was interesting to see into Dreyfuss more…..he’s good at his job and if it wasn’t him, it could be someone much worse. Something new for Vic to angst about. :-)

I do like the Crash/Vic “relationship”; their scenes are beyond entertaining.

I think the same way as you regarding Crash, Sherry. I don’t think he’d say no, but he isn’t pushing, just getting off by playing with Vic’s head. Personally, I hope it never happens! Wouldn’t want a threesome either.

I LOVED this book. I first read the series after Camp Hell came out and have been waiting ever since for this one.

One of the best things I love about the whole series is Vic’s POV. He is so jaded, insecure, afraid, and funny that I totally dig him and how he talks and thinks inside that crazy head of his.

I can’t wait to see what is up with the FPMP. I think this book was the start of Vic being more than he thought he was. Everyone knows Jacob is strong but now Vic can see he is also. I love Crash and I hope we see more of him in book 7. I also loved the scene with him and Vic at the end. It was short and to the point with the emotion it needed.

      Hi Glori

One of the best things I love about the whole series is Vic’s POV. He is so jaded, insecure, afraid, and funny that I totally dig him and how he talks and thinks inside that crazy head of his.

The best thing about the series is Vic with all of his insecurities. He’s so real. Crash loves to mess with his head and you never know if he’s serious about wanting to get into Vic’s pants. You’re right about that last scene with the two of them – awesome.:)

  22. 22

totally agree with everyone (LOVE Psycop!), it was such a thrill when I discovered Vic & Jacob…I feel I know them and JCP can do no wrong IMHO

it was such a thrill when I discovered Vic & Jacob

      Aren’t they the coolest couple?

This is such a wonderful series and I can’t think of their next adventure – Jordan will have to bring all of her talent to bear to top GhosTV.

  23. 23

JCP has done an awesome job of this series. I absolutely love these books and re-read them on some of my downtime.
Thanks for your review. Im waiting for Crash’s story.

      Hi Hannah
      Isn’t she the greatest?

She did do a story about Crash a few years ago – Striking Sparks – and I don’t believe she intends to do one with him and his one true love because he’s not the type to settle down (at least I think that’s what she told me once, but I could be horribly wrong).

If you’re still monitoring the comments Jordan would you care to say something about Crash’s story, if there’s going to be another one?

  24. 24

Hey, good thing I checked back to see! I will be smart and hit the “notify” button this time.

When Vic observed that Crash was married to his store in this latest novel, I got goosebumps. That felt genuine to me. While I can’t say for sure that Crash’s role will never change or that I won’t be struck with a story of his that is just dying to be told, right now my current thinking is that Crash isn’t the right type of character to cast as a protagonist. He’s just too inflexible to ride around his head for more than a short story or novelette.

His function in the series is to be a sort of mirror for Vic. A “would-have-been”. An idea of what Vic’s life might have been like if he’d had a decent upbringing, if he never went to Camp Hell, if his sixth sense didn’t overwhelm all his other senses–if, if, if.

Vic fails to see that if his life had been more like Crash’s, he and Jacob wouldn’t jibe. They’d clash. But that’s what’s wonderful about Vic. He sees so much overall that it takes him forever to see what’s going on with himself.

I don’t care if Crash never finds the love of his life I just want another story about him Jordan. It’s been a while since Striking Sparks
