Gearing up for the Big-Ass Holiday Author Giveaway – What you need to know and do

I am putting the finishing touches on the post and it will be ready to roll at 7:00 am (US Eastern Standard Time) on this Thursday, December 22. Here’s what you need to do to participate in the insan…er really fun time the Big-Ass Holiday Author Giveaway™ (BAHAG) will sure to be:

First: Check out the offerings beforehand so you know which one you want to bid on (and by “bid on,” we mean leave a comment just as you do for regular free book days, nothing more than that).  Note any comments the authors have made regarding formats offered, warnings/suggestions, when books will be out, etc). Here’s the link to the original post that contains the list of books up for grabs: http://www.reviewsbyjessewave.com/2011/12/04/santa-authors-2011/

Second: Come armed with more than one choice (we suggest three or four) and request them in order of priority so if your first choice is not available you have a fall back or two or three. You will only be entitled to one item (one book, a package of books or a series depending on what the author offered) unless we have some left over.  We will state on the post if and when seconds will be available.

Third: We need the name(s) of the authors FIRST because that’s how the books are listed, then the book title (or series name). You also must, must, MUST include your email address when you bid because that’s how we will be able to contact you. No email addy means no goodie, period. We will NOT be asking for email addresses if you forget to include it, and while we know that you do give your email address when you register as a user for the site itself, we will not be searching our database for them afterward. You MUST list it in your comment. Sorry to be strict about this, but it took us literally days last year to search out both authors and winners who neglected to provide that info.

Fourth: Unless specified, the books are in eformat. If an author lists different formats please state the type you want. Some are only offering one or two (i.e. just PDF or PDF and MOBI) because that’s all they have, so if you want something not listed you’re out of luck (or know how to convert what they’re offering).

Fifth: All books are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The time stamp on your comment is the only reliable way of knowing who bid first, so if you’re hesitating on December 22nd trying to make up your mind, don’t.  You snooze, you lose. :)

Sixth: Authors, you are free to participate in the frenz…er, ask for books as well, just like normal readers (if there is such a thing).  ;)

Seventh: Authors, please DO NOT contact winners directly. We’ve tried that in the past, but it didn’t work.  We will contact you after with winners’ names. Wave and I have a system and, while I know how exciting it is when someone snatches up your book, it is much easier for us if we send you a list of who gets what after the fact.  We appreciate your understanding.

If you have questions, please leave them here and Wave or I will answer. Also, if you’re a BAHAG virgin and want to see how it’s been done before so you’re ready, here is the link to last year’s event: http://www.reviewsbyjessewave.com/2010/12/24/authors-huge-book-giveaway-2010/

Hi, I am new to this and in the UK, do you have any idea what time the post wll be up for us to comment on please? I have no idea where in the world you are based. Thanks

      Hi Josie

7.00 A.M. EST is 5 hours behind London, England which would make it 12.00 noon. Depending on where you live you can add or subtract the appropriate number of hours.

My recommendation is to use World Clock which I use all the time because the reviewers live all over the world. Here’s a link

      http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

      Hope this helps.

I suppose it has to be a bad time for someone, but 4am PST? As Laura says, good luck to all those further east, & Happy Holidays everyone

We had to make a compromise for the readers living all over the world in different time zones.

For example it will be 11.00 P.M. in Sydney, Australia when we start. We will never be able to accommodate everyone but we hope that most readers will be happy with the schedule. Those of you on the cest coast of Canada and the USA will have to get up 3 hours early but it will be worth it. :)

Well, I guess a killer migraine that had me taking a long nap in the afternoon paid off after all. I’m still bright eyed right now and will probably be able to stay up til this posts.
(live on the Pacific coast-usually miss these early morning things)

Being a day sleeper/ night owl in Vegas pays off sometimes. 4am is nothing when you get off work at 1am. Can’t wait!!
