MLR Press will be releasing an ebook September 7 called Why Straight Women Love Gay Romance. This book was Geoff Knight’s brilliant idea so if you hate it, blame him. Geoff had the
balls fortitude to interview 32 women for the book – all of whom are fans of gay romance. Here’s the blurb:
It’s one of the world’s biggest secrets, and it’s about to come out … Why do straight women love gay romance?
What is it that attracts straight women to the idea of two men falling in love? Is it the muscles? The mystery of the male mind? The idea of true love overcoming all odds? How has it changed who these women are and how they see the world? And how powerful is this once-silent army of readers in the fight for equality.
32 women across 9 countries and 4 continents – from the world’s best selling romance authors to the biggest female fans of Gay Male Romance — are about to reveal — Why Straight Women Love Gay Romance.
Suzanne Brockmann has written the introduction for the book, an essay called “Redefining Normal”. I can’t wait to read what she has to say, although she gives a few glimpses of some of the things on her mind on her Facebook page. These include issues such as why all LGBTQ romance is considered to be erotic, which leads to the ghettoizing of these stories, and she’s also advocating “sweeter” gay romances. I can’t believe she and I are on the same page.
Poor Geoff – this must have been his toughest gig ever and I’m sending him a virtual case of champagne for the ulcers. BTW I was one of the lucky women Geoff interviewed for the book; I’m sure he hasn’t recovered.
The print book will be released later in September.
