In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last several weeks, the 12 Day Big-Ass Holiday Author Giveaway™ 2013 (BAHAG) starts this Friday, December 13. (Full posting schedule)
In order to make the event go as smoothly as possible in the chaos, I decided to make a post speaking directly to what you readers need to do to get a piece of the booty. Each year we get into a situation with an eager reader doing — or forgetting to do — something or expecting something that prevents them from getting a giftie. Wave and I hate when that happens and feel really bad, but we have rules and in an event this size, we need to stick to them. I don’t want anyone to say they haven’t been told what to do, so here it is:
1. Before you request an item please look to see if it’s still available by checking the list and the comments above you. Note that since the posts contain about 25 offerings each, glance at how many people have already bid and what is already gone before you comment. Books already chosen by other readers will have a strikethrough (with comment number after of the winner). And we know that especially at the beginning, the frenz…er, enthusiasm and pace of you all bidding makes it hard to keep up, but we do our best. And that takes us to the next item…
2. Give us your top 6-10 choices in order of priority so if your first one(s) is(are) not available you have a fall back (or two or three or six). You are only entitled to one item, period (one book, a package of books or a series depending on what the author offered) unless we have some left over. We will announce on December 24 around 5 pm EST if and when seconds become available. That means that if you win something on December 13, you are not eligible to win again unless it is in the (possible) dedicated “second helpings” round on December 25.
Also please check back on the post where you bid to see if we have questions for you (mostly in case what you asked for is gone). We anticipate that with 25 or so offerings each day, the books will be all spoken for in an hour or two, so you need to be on it.
3. Each person requesting a book must give the name of the author FIRST because that’s how the books are listed, then the book title(s) (or series name, depending on offering). You also must, must, MUST include your email address when you bid because that’s how we and the authors will be able to contact you. No email addy means no goodie, period. You have been warned. We will NOT be asking for email addresses if you forgot to include it, and while yes, you do give your email address when you register for the site, we will not be searching our database for them afterward. You MUST list it in your comment. And please do not email either Wave or me as all requesting of the books are done on the posts. Did I mention you must include your email address?
